Best Laptops for Students

Students need a laptop capable of meeting most tasks they face at university. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 provides premium features like its stunning 2K OLED display and powerful processor in an attractive yet ruggedized metal body.

Students looking for portable machines may prefer lightweight devices that can easily fit in a backpack or bag without adding too much extra weight to their load.

1. Acer Swift X 14

Acer's Swift X 14 laptop is an ideal solution for students seeking powerful CPU and GPU performance for video processing and other content creation, including OLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates to improve responsiveness. A conservative design provides a balanced package of quality hardware.

The system's 2.8K display is vibrant and colorful, featuring thin plastic bezels around its edge. Its 120Hz refresh rate adds smoother motion during videos or games.

The Swift X 14 performed admirably in PCMark 10, an all-around system benchmark, scoring higher than both Lenovo Slim Pro 7 and Dell XPS 13. Unfortunately, its battery life can take over eight hours to recharge fully.

2. Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

The Zephyrus G14 is a 14-inch gaming laptop designed to double as an all-round productivity machine, performing admirably in demanding workloads like video editing and programming. The newly upgraded AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU outperformed its older predecessor in multicore Cinebench R24 benchmark tests; however, productivity tasks like Premiere Pro were slightly behind larger laptops; similarly it couldn't compete with 16-inch Alienware m16 R2 when it comes to compute workloads.

Asus's machined aluminum chassis is an upgrade over previous models, and the Zephyrus G14 features a stunning 2.8K OLED display with G-Sync adaptive sync for an unprecedented responsive and vibrant experience. Plus, there's the flashy programmable LED on its lid for some additional flair!

3. Dell XPS 13

Dell XPS 13 ultraportable offers sleek machined aluminum chassis and beautiful display for light productivity tasks. While its Intel processor may not offer workstation-class color reproduction for cinephiles or prepress designers, but is still very fast and power efficient for this price range.

However, Dell's 2023 update of the XPS 13 doesn't merely bring new processors; rather it also incorporates its modern aesthetic across its laptop lineup - this includes invisible haptic trackpads, capacitive function keys that instantly switch into media controls and gapless keyboards with no spacing between keys.

However, these changes come at the cost of usability: Dell removed the 3.5-mm headphone jack and switched out its user-replaceable battery for one that is integrated into its unit and cannot be easily swapped out by you. While this might not be an immediate deal-breaker for you, it should still be taken into consideration.

4. Apple MacBook Air

Apple's 2016-redesigned MacBook Air remains an appealing option for students in search of an ultralight laptop with multiple functions and up to 18 hours of battery life, an HD Liquid Retina display, support for two external displays and more. Yet its limitations could deter some prospective buyers; such as limited expansion ports on 13-inch models (both located on the left side).

Aluminum chassis feels premium and sturdy when opening or closing its lid, with little flex when opening or closing it. Additionally, this laptop boasts a 1080p FaceTime camera for improved low-light performance as well as four speaker system with immersive sound quality and stereo separation - and all for just $999!

5. Asus Zenbook 14 OLED

The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED is an ultraportable with a gorgeous display and impressive specifications, including excellent battery life so that users can work away from an outlet.

The trackpad is large and comfortable to use, featuring a smooth surface that's great for touch typing. Plus, there's even an onboard numpad to speed up typing! Furthermore, all standard gestures are supported as well as faster typing speed.

Intel Core i5 8250U processor with NPU handles AI workloads effectively while still offering plenty of speed for everyday tasks. The battery can last up to 15 hours for untethered working and the laptop weighs 2.82 pounds - meaning no extra adapters will be necessary!
